Biers film jämförs med Muhammedhån av Sudan.

6 januari, 2010

”One of the defendants, Mohammed Osman Yusef, shouted after sentencing: ”You cannot killed a Muslim because he killed a Christian.”

Dressed in a traditional white robe, the bearded Yusef, a former military officer, also accused the United States of killing Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan.

”Islamic law condemns murder, regardless of the nationality or religion (of the victim,” the judge said. Some Muslim scholars say a Muslim can be punished, but not executed, for killing a non-Muslim.

The judge added that according to Islamic law Granville was a ”dhimmi” in Sudan, referring to the status of non-Muslims in an Islamic state that affords them protection and a waiver from army service, in return for a tax.

Sudanese law does not recognise non-Muslims in the country as dhimmis….

It said the murder was in response to attempts to raise the banner of Christianity over Sudan, the largest country in Africa.…”

Tear gas fired at protesters.

5 augusti, 2009

Jag undrar om vi kommer att få läsa detta i svensk media? Ur Timesonline.

”Sudanese riot police fired teargas to disperse protesters who gathered outside a Khartoum courthouse yesterday to support a woman journalist who faces up to 40 lashes for wearing trousers.

Lubna Hussein, a widow in her thirties, has drawn attention to her case in an attempt to change a Sudanese law that allows women to be flogged for dressing in breach of the country’s strict indecency laws.

Since her arrest last month she has courted media coverage of her plight and sent out 500 invitations to her trial, which began last week.

In response, about a hundred men and women, some wearing trousers in solidarity with Ms Hussein, began to gather on a main street in Khartoum near the court yesterday. “We are here to protest against this law that oppresses women and debases them,” said Amal Habani, another journalist, who was also arrested last month for writing a column in support of Ms Hussein.”

Byxor är uppenbarligen syndigt enligt islamisk lag.

”Likna inte män-då får du smaka piskan”

13 juli, 2009

Trots att inte kristna i Sudan ska omfattas av sharialagen så piskades kvinnor för att ha burit byxor. Några kvinnor har vänt sig till advokat för att slippa piskstraffet för att ha varit oanständigt klädda.

”Sharia Respects Women Alert: ”Sudan women ‘lashed for trousers,'” from the BBC, July 13 (thanks to Kasper):

A group of Sudanese women has been flogged as a punishment for dressing ”indecently”, according to a local journalist who was arrested with them.Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein, who says she is facing 40 lashes, said she and 12 other women wearing trousers were arrested in a restaurant in the capital, Khartoum.

She told the BBC several of the women had pleaded guilty to the charges and had 10 lashes immediately.

Khartoum, unlike South Sudan, is governed by Sharia law.

Several of those punished were from the mainly Christian and animist south, Ms Hussein said.

Non-Muslims are not supposed to be subject to Islamic law, even in Khartoum and other parts of the mainly Muslim north….

Ms Hussein said some women pleaded guilty to ”get it over with” but others, including herself, chose to speak to their lawyers and are awaiting their fates.

Under Sharia law in Khartoum, the normal punishment for ”indecent” dressing is 40 lashes….”
