Tyskland angriper USA: ”Astronomiska gaspriser”. Tysklands ekonomi- och klimatminister Robert Habeck går till attack mot USA och andra länder som han anser skor sig på energikrisen i Ukrainakrigets spår.

”Vissa länder, inklusive vänliga, uppnår ibland astronomiska priser [för sin gas]. Det är klart att det för med sig problem som vi måste prata om”, säger den tyska ekonomi- och klimatministern Robert Habeck till den regionala tyska tidningen NOZ i en intervju, berättar bland andra CNBC.

”USA kontaktade oss när oljepriset sköt i höjden och de nationella oljereserverna i Europa”, säger Robert Habeck, som även är vice förbundskansler i Tyskland.

Orbán: ‘Sanctions were not decided democratically’

At least in Hungary, citizens will be able to vote on the sanctions that are causing massive damage to Europe, after Orbán confirmed that there would soon be a referendum on this.

“The sanctions were not decided in a democratic way, but decided by Brussels bureaucrats and European elites,” he said in the Budapest parliament. “Although Europe’s citizens are paying the price, they have not been asked,” he added, underlining that “the sanctions imposed are causing enormous damage to Europe.”

Orbán recalled that since the war began, Russia has earned 158 billion euros over the last six months from energy exports at increased prices. That is more than Russia’s total annual export earnings for 2021 in half a year. Half of this, 85 billion euros, was paid for by the EU countries.

Orbán considers this situation to be intolerable: “European companies are unable, or only with difficulty, to pay the sanctioned energy prices. We are waiting for an answer, the whole of Europe is waiting for an answer from Brussels on the question of how much longer we have to go through with this. If this continues, all of Europe will be ruined. It’s time to talk openly about this with our American friends while it’s not too late.”

The pipelines were the last thing ensuring EU energy independence, Moscow’s envoy to the UN said.

The sabotage of Russia’s Nord Stream gas pipelines benefits the US, not Russia or the EU, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said on Friday.

“The main question is whether what happened to Nord Stream is beneficial to the US? Absolutely. US suppliers of liquefied natural gas should now celebrate a several-fold increase in LNG supplies to the European continent. And from the political point of view – the last thread ensuring EU independence in the terms of energy has been severed,” Nebenzia said at the UN Security Council. He added that while even European production is being hastily transferred to the US amid the energy crisis, Europe’s population is now headed toward “a very dark, cold and long winter.”

“Is the destruction of Nord Stream beneficial to European states? Hardly. They would then become dependent on a more expensive and highly unreliable supplier. I am referring to the host country of the UN headquarters [the US]. Leaving aside the Polish, Czech and Baltic politicians, who are completely insane with Russophobia, even with all the anti-Russian hysteria in the EU, experts cannot fail to understand the danger of such a scenario and its consequences for the European economy,” the diplomat stressed.

Furthermore, according to him, “if we think in terms of common sense, rather than in the spirit of the morbid fantasy that the Russians are willing to do anything to intimidate Europe,” Russia would also hardly benefit from jeopardizing its own pipeline.

“It makes no sense for us to ruin with our own hands a project in which we have invested an enormous amount of money and from which we could get a substantial economic return. You yourself in the West have said that we make a profit on energy exports and benefit from rising energy prices,” Nebenzia pointed out.

Danish authorities reported leaks on both the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines on Monday after a local pipeline operator noted a loss of pressure following a series of undersea explosions. The US, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway all deemed the incident to have been sabotage. Russian President Vladimir Putin put the blame for the situation on Western nations, saying that “sanctions are not enough for the Anglo-Saxons” and that they have now “moved to sabotage.”

At a news conference on Friday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken denied that the US or NATO countries had anything to do with the damage to the Nord Stream pipelines. US President Joe Biden, meanwhile, accused Russia of spreading disinformation with accusations toward the US and urged the global community not to believe that Washington is to blame for the incident.

Serbia accuses West of double standards.

Western countries have failed to explain why they have different points of view on Ukraine and Serbia’s territorial integrity, given that they support Kiev in its fight against Russia, but endorsed Kosovo’s independence, President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday.

In an address to the UN General Assembly in New York, the Serbian leader stated that his state respects the territorial integrity of all countries, including Ukraine, and that many describe the hostilities between Moscow and Kiev as “the first conflict on European soil since WWII.”

He said, however, that the truth about the violation of Serbia’s territorial integrity “is constantly unspoken.”

“We ask for a clear answer to the question I’ve been asking… for years – what is the difference between the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, which was grossly violated,” Vucic said, referring to the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. According to Vucic, Serbia “has never [set] foot” on anybody’s territory, but this “did not prevent the 19 richest NATO countries from attacking a sovereign country without a decision by the UN Security Council.”

He also said that while NATO pledged to respect the full territorial integrity of Serbia, it did not stop many Western countries from unilaterally recognizing the breakaway province of Kosovo in 2008.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Serbian president warned that the world is moving closer to a global war, adding that “the UN has been weakened,” given that the great powers “practically destroyed the UN order over the past several decades.”

NATO occupied Kosovo in 1999, after a 78-day bombing campaign against what was then Yugoslavia. The province declared independence in 2008 with Western support. While the US and most of its allies have recognized it, many other countries, including Russia and China, have not.

Bilden från våren 2022 ovan uppges visa behandlingen av medborgare som vägrar slåss mot ryssarna. Andra anser att det handlar om civila bestraffningar av plundrare eller av personer som är ryssvänliga.

Den amerikanska journalisten Max Blumenthal skrev i april 2022 på Twitter:
